Youth Week Music Event: Performance & Workshop Opportunity at Massey University

Are you a young musician or interested in the behind-the-scenes of live music production? Here’s an exciting opportunity to perform live or learn how to run sound and lighting for a gig — all as part of Youth Week 2025.

Cheerios & Chinwags Presents: Music Workshop + Gig

This awesome event is being organised by Cheerios and Chinwags, a student-led music club based at Massey University in Wellington. The event is part of Youth Week (19–25 May) and is proudly funded by a grant from Ara Taiohi, the national youth development organisation.

The goal? To give young people a chance to perform, learn, and connect through music.

What’s Happening on Saturday 24th May?

The big day will feature hands-on sound and lighting workshops, followed by an evening gig showcasing solo artists and youth bands. Here's the schedule:

  • 1:00 – 3:00 pm – Soundcheck for performers

  • 3:00 – 5:00 pm – Sound and lighting workshops

  • 5:00 – 6:00 pm – Dinner (provided for all artists and workshop participants; dietary needs catered for)

  • 6:00 pm – Doors open

  • 6:30 pm – First artist hits the stage

The event is expected to wrap up around 8:30 pm, depending on the number of acts.

And the best part? It’s all free and open to all ages. The gig and workshops will take place in Te Kōhure (1C15), the live room inside the music block at Massey University. Here’s a map of the campus.

Get Involved: Perform or Learn Live Sound

Whether you're a budding musician ready to take the stage, or curious about how to run a live gig from the technical side, this is a great opportunity to build experience and confidence in a fun, welcoming environment.
