Captain Hurricane Rocks with The Rock Academy

Last week, something pretty special happened in Wellington — 8 young bands from The Rock Academy got the chance to jump on stage and play to a huge crowd gathering outside Hnry Stadium.

Before the main event kicked off, the area was already buzzing with energy. People were arriving early, the atmosphere was building, and our students got to experience what it’s like to perform when the audience is big, loud, and ready for live music.

A Real Stage. A Real Sound System. A Real Crowd.

To make it the real deal, The Rock Academy set up the stage and all the sound equipment, giving our young musicians the full performance experience — not just a casual jam, but a proper live show setup with the kind of sound and staging that makes you step up and play your best.

For many of these students, it was a huge milestone:

  • learning how to handle a live performance environment

  • working together as a band under pressure

  • hearing their sound projected properly through a full system

  • and feeling that rush when a crowd actually stops to watch

The Bands (and the Moments We Won’t Forget)

Each band brought their own style and personality — from tight grooves to big choruses and fearless solos. The best part wasn’t just the music (though it was awesome) — it was seeing the confidence grow from the first song to the last.

Also: The Hot Dogs Were Legit

And yes — we have to mention it — the hot dogs were good. Nothing like a great feed after hauling gear, sound-checking, and putting on a show.
