Young buskers, big sound — and over $100 earned
There’s something special about seeing young musicians step out into the world, plug in (or tune up), and share their music with anyone who’ll stop and listen. During our recent holiday programme, a group of our students took that leap — busking with confidence, playing a mix of pop favourites and rock classics, and learning what it really means to perform.
Pop hooks, rock riffs, and real-world experience
Armed with guitars, a portable setup, and a set list packed with crowd-pleasers, the group rotated through songs that had people smiling, singing along, and dropping coins and notes into the case. They kept the energy up, handled the nerves, and learned how to read a crowd — when to lean into a chorus, when to switch the vibe, and how to keep the momentum going between songs.
By the end of the session, they’d made **over one hundred dollars** — a huge achievement, and a real reminder that practice and teamwork can turn into something tangible.
Mentored by Geoff and Jackson
A big part of the success came from the guidance and encouragement of **Geoff and Jackson**, who mentored the students through The Rock Academy holiday programme. From tightening up intros and endings, to stagecraft, confidence, and performance etiquette, they helped the group prepare like pros — and then backed them as they put it all into action.
More than money: confidence, connection, and community
Sure, the $100+ was exciting — but the bigger win was watching the students grow in real time. They supported each other, stayed focused, and experienced the buzz of connecting with an audience. It’s the kind of learning you can’t get from a bedroom practice session alone.
