There’s something special about live music in Wellington — especially when it happens right in the middle of Cuba Street.
Recently, three of our female vocal students from The Rock Academy (Wellington) took their singing out of the lesson room and into the real world with a fun busking session on Cuba Street. They performed with confidence, drew a large crowd, and (most importantly) had an absolute blast doing it.
From vocal lessons to real performance confidence
In vocal lessons, we work on the foundations that help singers feel comfortable and in control when they perform:
breathing and vocal support
pitch and ear training
tone, power, and vocal control
microphone technique and stage presence
building confidence song by song
Busking is a great way to put those skills into action. It’s a supportive challenge — and it helps singers learn how to stay focused, connect with an audience, and enjoy performing.
A big Cuba Street crowd (and a lot of fun)
As they sang, people stopped, listened, and gathered around. The energy was awesome — smiles, applause, and that classic Wellington vibe you only get on Cuba Street. For our students, it was a huge confidence boost and a reminder that progress isn’t just about hitting notes — it’s about feeling proud of what you can do.
