When a Video Bomb Doubles Down to the Tune of "The Jazz Entertainer"

What happens when you mix a classic, bouncy jazz track, a young guitar shredder trying out the piano, and a perfectly timed double video bomb?

Pure, unscripted holiday programme gold!

During our last school holiday programme, we caught a brilliant moment on camera that perfectly captures the creative, hilarious, and unpredictable energy here at The Rock Academy.

The backdrop? The cheerful, syncopated rhythms of "The Jazz Entertainer" by Dick Walter playing through the room.

The star? Our holiday programme regular, Robbie.

Robbie Swaps the Six-String for the Keys

If you’ve spent any time at our Wellington music camp or band school, you probably know Robbie. Usually, he’s attached to a guitar, tearing up the fretboard and shredding classic riffs like a seasoned pro—which is pretty mind-blowing for a youngster.

But last holidays, Robbie decided to flex his musical muscles and sit down at the piano.

As he started tapping out some notes to match the upbeat jazz vibe in the room, we pulled out the camera to record. He was doing a fantastic job adapting his natural rhythm to the keys. But at The Rock Academy, a quiet solo moment never stays quiet for long!

Enter: The Background Dance-Off 🕺🕺

Just as Robbie really got into his groove, the magic happened—and that’s where the ultimate double video bomb comes in.

Completely unprompted, two boys decided to turn Robbie's jazz session into their personal dance floor, striking at different times with perfect comedic timing:

  • Video Bomb #1: Out of nowhere, the first boy starts dancing in the background, fully committed to the bit and grooving along to the Dick Walter tune.

  • Video Bomb #2: Just when you think the frame has cleared, the second boy busts out his own dance moves in the background at a completely different time, doubling down on the chaos.

The best part? Robbie didn't even miss a beat. He just kept on playing, proving that a true performer can handle any stage—even when a rogue background dance-off is unfolding right behind them!

It’s moments like this that make our music camp so special. We don't just teach chords; we build a safe, inclusive space where kids can be completely creative, make friends, and be unashamedly themselves.
