From Power Chords to Pro: Reuban's Rocking Journey at Band School

There’s nothing better than seeing a young musician grow—not just in skill, but in confidence, creativity, and passion. That’s exactly what we’ve seen with Reuban, one of the standout young guitarists at The Rock Academy’s Band School.

Reuban joined our Band School around three years ago, just as his band was forming. Since then, the group has rehearsed week after week, building a tight sound and strong friendships. They’ve played loads of gigs around Wellington, from school fairs and community events to larger venues where their energy and musicianship shine. They've even recorded an original song together—something not many young bands can claim!

What makes Ruben's story so inspiring is how far he’s come. When he first joined, he was keen but a bit rough around the edges (we all start there!). Fast forward to today, and he’s rocking a serious rig—he's upgraded his guitar, amp, and pedals—and his tone has become rich, refined, and super professional. He listens carefully to the band, blends in when needed, and isn’t afraid to step up and solo with style when it’s his time to shine.
