How much should children practice music…

Writer's picture: Geoff DayGeoff Day

Repetitive strain injuries are common among  musicians. Over practicing is common and injuries can be bad enough to force the musician from playing permanently.

Forcing young pupil’s to practice can also be counter productive. We have found that being relaxed about playing and practicing is often better. Impromptu jams around the house can be lots of fun too.

Most kids don’t practice much in the early stages. That can all change during the teenage years. If we can get them there with a solid foundation of music proficiency then their life as a confident person can be a lot easier.
